Mira is the long-lost biological daughter of the Hale family of Ashen City. Yet after returning home, she repeatedly gives way to their adopted daughter, Lia—surrendering her room, her place as a dragon rider, and even half of her mother’s inheritance. Before the wedding, Draegoth—the bonded dragon Garrick personally tamed and the only keepsake Mira has left from her mother—is trained to obey Lia alone and nearly kills Mira. Realizing that Garrick, her fiancé of eight years, has always seen her as nothing more than a gullible woman, Mira walks barefoot across burning coals, breaks off their engagement, and turns to marry Theron, the Lord of the North, who has waited eight years for her. When Garrick, Lia, and Mira’s brother Cael arrive at the magnificent Northern wedding and discover that Mira is the bride, they are overwhelmed with regret—but it is already too late. In the end, Mira is surrounded by the love she deserves, and her mother’s dragon finally returns to her side.
